EVERRAIN

Tier 3 — The Growth

False suns light the grow decks while freight crews keep Jayjo supplied. Creatures find heat, food and repeated routes behind the sealed doors too.

Before the false dawn

Grow lamps brighten on schedule. Freight moves through the walls while one crew sleeps and another returns. Valve workers listen to pressure before speaking. The Growth's warmth and dryness depend on seals, filters, drains, wards, pumps, and people who arrive before those comforts can be mistaken for natural.

Steel, grating, translucent greenhouse skin, mesh, cable trays, tagged lock boxes, and condensation rails shape the tier. Green life is abundant behind boundaries. A changed badge can separate a person from work, food, and home within a single corridor.

Food, water, and freight

Valve Choir routes water through catwalks, gauges, bio-filter walls, and wet steel. Latticegard holds chained grow decks, artificial sun, pollinators, and trellis corridors. Cratewind gives pallets and freight lanes priority over pedestrians. Bellweld attaches housing to work loops, where shared dinners, vine screens, childcare, and tool borrowing soften the shift pattern.

Threadbare Yard sorts industrial waste and salvage; a discarded object may become a repair, medicine, evidence, or a gift. Apprentices' Yard brings tools, mentors, rivalries, safety training, and judgment about future work together. Catchers' Yard stages visible anomaly-response training and containment equipment.

Tubers, grain, greens, fungi, algae protein, fiber crops, herbs, and preserved foods leave the tier under controlled categories. Workers may see abundance they cannot afford in its best form. Sour bread, saved seed, illicit spice, and canteen variations preserve taste within the count.

Things the sealed rooms cannot exclude

Pollinators can refuse a trellis before a sensor detects blight. Rodents reveal a failed seal. Rimwise occupy warm seams. Mold may be food, filter, culture, contamination, or an excuse to blame a worker. Cosmic fauna can exploit feed, repeated routes, observation, and controlled heat.

Chasers learn partner movement, stop signals, kit checks, indirect looking, field care, and route repetition tests. Their work exposes an ecology the public language often reduces to wildlife or variance. Other residents notice a missing colleague and learn how not to become a witness.

Shift end does not end the work of cleaning clothes, feeding children, fixing a seal, or making sense of a bulletin. Music, quiet parties, indoor sport, private plants, and jokes continue between the assigned hours.
