Terrace-Sun Skitter

A retained-heat grazer softens the roof beneath it before its body moves.

A low, wide creature with a cracked sealant shell pins a roof fragment with thin bent-nail legs; feeding blisters mark the surface ahead.

Warmth inside the roof

The Terrace-Sun Skitter lies wide, low, and flat against upper roofs. Its segmented shell resembles warped asphalt or blistered sealant; thin legs like bent nails pierce the roofing beneath it. It feeds on retained heat rather than hunting across open space.

Its usual range runs from the Growth through Alderon, with reports along Pinnacle approaches. Tar roofs, heat pipes, maintenance walkways, and poorly ventilated structures supply its habitat. Strong sun increases its activity. Rain sends it into cracks, vents, and softened seams, not necessarily away from the building.

The surface changes first

Tar or sealant softens beneath the Skitter before the animal moves. An unusually warm patch, circular feeding blisters, or a surface that seems newly resealed can precede burns, punctures, and failing footing. Blistered material and egg-like scars remain afterward; their appearance alone does not establish eggs.

Roof workers test doubtful surfaces and stop treating smoothness as proof of repair. No test guarantees safety. Feeding can weaken a roof enough to collapse days after the creatures retreat, and removing the animal does not restore damaged sealant.

Upper-tier maintenance may hide infestations to preserve appearances. The shelter beneath that roof is still somebody's home or workplace; closing a dangerous area leaves people needing an ordinary alternative and the roof needing repair.

A rain-dark doorway separates wet stone from a sheltered interior.
