One sign is rumor
No single body supplies a universal forecast. Pressure can arrive as ear pain, joint ache, gill irritation, horn sensitivity, shallow breath, or an old scar tightening. Buildings contribute another account: pipes change pitch, rope tension shifts, doors swell, repairs sweat, and lamps gather static.
Birds change altitude. Moth larvae leave warm layers. Rimwise seal a nest or carry young across exposed floor. Snails close early; fungi open; salt grazers refuse a bloom. Any one may be responding to food, poison, a predator, or bad air. Several aligned changes deserve more attention than one convenient omen.
The longer weather
Long wet saturates walls for weeks, crowds dry shelter, expands mold work, and makes bedding difficult to restore. Thin rain opens roofs and markets while tempting people onto structures that have not recovered. Heat hold traps warmth after pressure passes; roofs fill with sleepers, cloth, birds, insects, and competing claims to space.
Runoff turn carries a change in production, cleaning, mining, crops, or mineral flow above. Lower water changes smell or color before an announcement explains why. Cold draw pulls mountain air through vents and shafts, preserving some food while threatening wet bodies and equipment.
A clear breach briefly opens long sightlines across tiers. People repair, gather, travel, pray, photograph, and worry about being seen. Clear-hunger follows in the desire for another opening: a social pressure that makes flattering forecasts easier to believe.
The kind of wet matters
Needle rain enters seams, eyes, fur, feathers, and instrument housings without necessarily producing deep flood. Sheet rain hides distance and makes bells and handlines useful. Blackwater turn describes darkened runoff whose mineral, industrial, organic, or unknown load must not automatically be called supernatural.
Practical forecasts ask how hard the rain strikes, where it collects, what it carries, how fast warmth leaves, and what remains afterward. A district average cannot answer for the house below a new diversion.
Zeno hears change in cooling baths and forge drains; Barge in ropes, hulls, bells, and blocked current. Albino watches contamination and filter load. Nocturn reads lamps, condensation, fungi, and cold air. At the Split, several waters and several accounts can change within a single crossing.
