EVERRAIN

Silence Vein

A pale seam-growing vine whose thorn can leave a conscious person unable to move.

A route that changes posture

Silence Vein threads cracks, drain runs, door joints, vent chases, stair cores, and pipe-sweat seams. Its tendon-thin body has shallow ribbing, narrow folded leaves, and short black glassy thorns. Old-battery metal is a familiar smell around it.

A prick can progress from numb heat through heaviness to paralysis lasting minutes or as long as a day. Awareness can remain intact. The person is not consenting, surrendering, or simply choosing silence because a body looks still from outside.

How restraint becomes deniable

City Sweepers use thorns on restraint batons. A still body can be made to look compliant, and observers can build an ordinary explanation around the absence of struggle. Calling the tool non-lethal does not make a fall, rising water, exposure, or abandonment harmless.

Neighborhood knowledge appears in shoulders kept away from a wall, sealed sleeves, warned children, and an awkward gap left clear beside a shortcut. A retained thorn in cloth can outlast the story others find convenient.

The time after stillness

The vine does not steal a voice or control a mind. Thorn removal does not promise instant recovery, and no universal antidote is established. This is Everrain’s fictional ecology, not real-world medical advice.

When movement returns, a ruined delivery, lost shift, missing route, and disputed account still remain. A conscious witness may remember every word said over the motionless body and find nobody willing to repeat it. The plant changes the politics of a corridor as well as the muscles of one person.

A rain-dark doorway separates wet stone from a sheltered interior.
