EVERRAIN

History still carrying load

Jayjo's past survives in foundations, rules, repairs, recipes, missing names, and memories that refuse one clean chronology.

Evidence underfoot

A blocked door can show where a district once extended without revealing who ordered it closed. Mismatched stairs, old pipe sizes, sealed shrines, buried rail, flood marks, and obsolete repairs continue affecting present work. A coat or household cup can preserve an intimate history a monument leaves out.

Documents preserve both an event and the needs of the institution recording it. Oral accounts change because tellers protect different people; variation is not automatically corruption. Biological traces, scars, animal routes, and growth patterns carry other kinds of time. A supernatural structure may preserve terms precisely while losing the human reason behind them.

Changes the city remembers

Before the present hierarchy, the mountain already held settlement, routes, labor, and sacred or feared places. Managed altitude accumulated through construction, emergency rules, sorting, permission, and stories that made dryness look deserved.

The Upbuild tightened gates into scan corridors and restricted service routes. The Flood Year turned routing failure into safety doctrine and expanded enforcement. The Quiet Reform standardized the work of sealing, rerouting, and explaining an incident. These named changes do not settle every date, leader, or local account.

The Outer Rim Uprising ended permanent Sweeper government in Tier 0, not every Sweeper entry. It can be remembered as liberation, loss, abandonment, opportunity, violence, or district self-rule by people who experienced different costs. It is not one uncontested heroic story.

What a household keeps

Recipes change around lost ingredients. Tools pass between hands. Names are repeated, translated, chosen, or deliberately retired. Children inherit a route warning before learning why it exists. Work crews retain a mark inside machinery or a procedure named for somebody who learned its cost.

Official history tends toward orderly continuity; district memory keeps contradictions that explain recurring harm. Neither is uniformly complete. The city's exact founding, total age, origin of Everrain, and full chronology remain unresolved. Erasure is also incomplete: mismatched records, a returned object, an empty hook, or a neighbor who remembers the same joke can leave the past in reach long after a report calls it closed.
