Care after the clinic door

Illness changes a household's food, work, routes, and sleeping arrangements long before it becomes a clinic record.

The room gets sick too

Flood exposure can leave wounds, cold injury, and delayed infection. Persistent damp damages skin and bedding; smoke and metal dust wear down workers over years. Hunger slows healing. When one person cannot carry water, keep a shift, or clean a breathing vessel, somebody else has to take over.

Street names describe familiar suffering without always naming one cause. Rain skin covers several wet-skin problems. Blackwater fever describes illnesses acquired through contaminated water. Metal cough belongs to several kinds of industrial exposure. Rope hand includes strains, splits, numbness, and crushed fingers. Gut glass is sharp abdominal distress, not a single disease.

Unequal places to recover

Outer Rim care comes from street medics, midwives, experienced relatives, compounders, body specialists, and mutual-aid rooms. Tier 1 often stabilizes people without supplying the conditions to recover. Eldenberry has a wider range of clinics and specialists, but paperwork and prejudice still affect access. Growth work medicine knows its injuries well while facing pressure to restore the shift. Higher tiers buy tailored treatment, rehabilitation, and controlled surroundings.

Care workers include mold cleaners and water keepers as well as people recognized as healers. A brace maker adapts equipment around someone's chosen life. A cup tender knows a patient's normal breathing. A good practitioner asks what is usual for this individual before deciding that a difference is illness.

A recovery has a calendar

Fur, feathers, scales, gills, horns, tails, pregnancy, injury, and disability alter treatment and equipment. A standardized bed or dressing can fail the person it is supposed to help. Accommodations belong to competent care, not special spectacle.

An emergency intervention may take minutes; weakness, pain, infection risk, missed wages, and household work last longer. Food, stable warmth, clean cloth, sleep, privacy, and reliable follow-up remain necessary afterward. Strange symptoms do not cancel ordinary illness. Marked pressure or contract residue can coexist with an infection, and containment alone is not treatment. The affected person still has a name, dependents, tastes, and a tomorrow to recover for.
